Locals take security measures in their own hands

Locals in a Wyndham housing estate have introduced private security patrols, following a spike in car thefts and aggravated burglaries.

The Jubilee Estate in Wyndham Vale is one area across Melbourne hiring 24/7 patrols in a bid to crackdown on crime.

Some body corporate groups are reportedly spending up to $170,000 a year for security guards.

John Moncreiff from MonJon Australia said it was important to have a visible presence.

“Our presence is enough,” he said.

“It’s a deterrent and they see we are active.”
