Premier Ben Carroll has made a big election commitment for the Geelong region.
Labor has pledged $237 million for the first stage of the Bellarine Link, if re-elected in November.
He told Geelong Broadcasters the project would link Geelong to Barwon Heads.
“Two lanes in each direction,” he said.
“Planning to get underway in 2027, and construction underway in the next term.”
The Premier also promising $57 million to upgrade sections of Murradoc Road in Drysdale.
The City of Greater Geelong has welcomed the pledge for the Bellarine Link, saying it is critically needed to reduce traffic congestion, get trucks out of the CBD and cut travel times to the Bellarine.
The council is calling on all candidates in South Barwon to commit to the project.
However, Shadow Transport Minister Evan Mulholland is skeptical.
“He (Ben Carroll) promised he would deliver the Mount Duneed Secondary College, and as Education Minister, he never delivered it,” Mr Mulholland said.
“They also promised to deliver a Torquay Community Hospital – they never delivered it.”
