The Commonwealth Games has become the latest battle between the state government and the opposition.
The games set to begin in Glasgow this week, after previously being slated for regional Victoria.
Geelong was set to play a major role in the games, including hosting the closing ceremony, athlete’s village, and several sports.
The start of the games this week has drawn the ire of opposition leader Jess Wilson.
“This cost Victorians $600 million dollars, $200 of which has gone to Glasgow to host the games,” she said.
“This wee Victorians should be watching on wondering how this government continues to waste taxpayer money every single day and not even apologise.”
However Allan took the opportunity on Monday to apologise, pointing to the overall cost of the games.
“I am sorry,” she said.
“I’m sure those athletes and again, I’ve met, and as I’ve said, I’ve spoken to them, I can understand their disappointment.
“But let’s also remember that when this decision was taken at the time, it was also supported by work from the Auditor-General.
“It would have cost $6bn. It is not a comparison between the events that were proposed here in Victoria and the much smaller games currently being hosted in Glasgow.”
