The Prime Minister has visited Viva Energy’s Corio refinery, in the aftermath of Wednesday night’s blaze.
Anthony Albanese flew back from Malaysia to visit the refinery and speak with staff and emergency services on Friday morning.
He said while the timing of the fire was not ideal, it was not a dire situation.
“The advice that we’ve received today is that 80 per cent of diesel production is continuing,” he said.
“Eighty per cent of aviation fuel is continuing, and 60 per cent of petrol production is proceeding today as well.”
Mr Albanase also said it was good news no-one was injured in the incident.
“That is a tribute to the professionalism and to the management issues that have been put in place to deal with an incident like this.”
An advice remains in place for Corio, Norlane and North Shore with crews still on scene, despite the fire being extinguished on Thursday.
Viva Energy CEO Scott Wyatt was confident there would be no impact on fuel supply.
He said any costs incurred from the blaze would not be passed onto the consumer.
